          play that funky music my
                  sweet nightingale.

Last rotated: November 29, 2010

Woo! Another new rotation before the end of the year! I'm in the library and should be studying, but I feel like I'm only in the mood to do these rotations when I shouldn't be doing them. xD

Juliette Gréco - Sur Les Quais Du Vieux Paris
Movie - An Education
Language - French
Comment - T_T I want to go to France so badly. I want to wear cute dresses and eat cute cookies and drink cute tea out of cute tea cups. *sigh* And that's not what I have. But I guess that's alright too. I don't even like tea. >_> This song just makes me want all those things because Gréco paints such an elegant picture of a lazy, chic Paris that I can't help but want to exist in. I suppose if I did ever go I'd be disappointed that the French don't perpetually wear cute dresses and eat cute cookies and drink cute tea out of cute tea cups. *sigh* C'est la vie.

Beth Rowley - A Sunday Kind of Love
Movie - An Education
Language - English
Comment - I really love this movie. Almost as much as (500) Days of Summer. Almost. Beth Rowley is incredibly sexy in this movie and even without watching you can feel it ooze out of her voice. Beg and plead all you want Beth, because I'm going to listen to this song and hope that a sunday love never comes around if this absence can produce such a swanky song. You know the kind of scene where a single spotlight is focused on the singer, dressed in a form fitting black dress, crooning all of life's sorrows into an old timey mic while the pianist in the background pulls his fedora over his eyes? Yeah, this is one of those songs.

The Temper Trap - Soldier On (Big City Love Affair Remix)
Series - N/A
Language - English
Comment - Sometimes when I listen to this song on the way to class I try to match my footsteps with the beat. It can be a pretty awkward sight if I get really into it. This should be enough to convince you to listen to this song. /endcomment

Tennis - Pigeon
Series - N/A
Language - English
Comment - Gah, I love love LOVE bands with this vintage 60's surf rock sound. Tennis is a little simpler, a little grittier, a little more low-fi than Best Coast, but for some reason I always mix the two up in my head. Lubbu.

Neon Trees - Animal
Commercial - Bones on TNT
Language - English
Comment - Bones Bones Bones Bones if I could I would spend my days watching Bones than doing shitty homework even though my homework will eventually lead to a career like Bones but not really because that's not exactly what forensic anthropologists do. At least not in the real world. o0o0o I love coffee because it makes songs like this super super super hyper and catchy and jittery and fun. "Whoa oh what are you waiting for~~?"

Pearl and the Puppet - Make Me Smile
Series - N/A
Language - English
Comment - My suitemate and I heard this song in a Forever21 and thought it had the cutest lyrics. I tried to copy them down, but it was pretty crowded in the store and I only caught the chorus. Once we got home we typed in "do doo do doo let it go let it go" and miraculously we got results. xD Ahh the wonders of the Internet. So if that little tidbit didn't give you a clear enough picture, this song is cute to the core. Lot's of doo doo's and la la's, clattering tambourines and all around cheer to energize you for the day.

Local Natives - Who Knows Who Cares
Series - N/A
Language - English
Comment - At first I was like "lady danville?? O_O" then I was like "Naw just playin' Local Natives." I have three favorite things about this song that hook me every time: 1) those trumpet, violin, orchestrated parts 2) the onslaught of kick ass drumming every so often and 3) how invincible I feel after hearing the former. Nothing makes me feel more mighty than walking on a clear blue day with the wind in my hair listening to those trumpet, violin, orchestrated parts saluting the hell out of everything and anything that makes life wonderful. FRIGGIN' AWESOME.

First Aid Kit - When I Grow Up (Fever Ray Cover)
Series - N/A
Language - English
Comment - Sometimes I get so pathetic that I can't listen to First Aid Kit because the singer reminds me of a woman I don't want to remember and who I don't really know at all but am envious of because she once had something that makes me feel ridiculous and jealous for wanting even though I have it now. This probably doesn't make sense to anyone but it makes me feel better because I know what I'm making sense about and I wanted to feel less stupid for not being able to listen to First Aid Kit's songs sometimes. I really do like their music though, especially this cover. But I'm going to move on to the next song now because it's bringing down the entire mood of this rotation. :/

Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal
Series - N/A
Language - English
Comment - I know I've posted this up before, but in my mind this song is a perennial reminder of what winter should be. Fresh, whimsical, no baggage happiness that shouldn't stop after Christmas. I love everything about this song. From Robin Pecknold's dreamy vocals to the thumping timpani down to the simplest tambourine, I love how everything absolves itself of worry and comes together to make being alive and living whole.

Kid Koala - Gorillaz Routine
Series - N/A
Language - English
Comment - There goes my coffee high. This song is chill to the maaaax. Like a slow folding story pop up book thingy that you have trouble turning because it's on one of your favorite pictures and even if you wanted to turn the page you couldn't because the pop up castle is stuck underneath the pop up cloud on the next page. You wouldn't want to rip that cloud so you sit there listening and soaking that picture in, burning the image of it into your memory until one day you're typing up incoherent reviews on a music rotation site. Then you turn the page and the next song plays.

Love Psychedelico - Hadaka no Ousama
Series - N/A
Language - Japanese/English
Comment - It's amazing that after years of listening to the same five Love Psychedelico songs that I find such a gem chilling at the depth of my music folder. How this song never added to my iTunes is beyond me, but I'm so glad it appeared. Kumi always had this frank, raw voice that regardless of the time that has gone by you could still recognize it by its beauty. It's one of those voices that calls your attention from the first note and without trying seems to ingrain itself in your mind. I think it's because Love Psychedelico isn't fancy high powered electric guitars and thundering orchestral solos. It's just Kumi and Naoki and two guitars and a melody. It's just real.
